Which AI does it use and where does it run?
An open segmentation model (U²-Net, Apache license) executed with WebAssembly IN YOUR BROWSER: the image is never sent to a server. On first use the engine and model (about 19 MB) download from this same site.
How is this different from Remove background?
Same engine, same output: we keep both pages because they answer different searches. Use whichever you prefer.
How does it handle hair and fine edges?
With clear subjects the result is very good; loose hair and very busy backgrounds are the limit of any compact model. We are honest: for hard cases, check the before/after comparison.
Does the PNG keep the quality?
Yes: the subject is copied as-is from the original; only the alpha channel changes.
