Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on the content. PDFs with photos or scans often shrink a lot (sometimes over 70%); text-only PDFs are already efficient, so the margin is smaller. You always see the real result before downloading.

Does compressing lose quality?

Not in Best quality mode — that's lossless. Recommended and Maximum recompress page images with minimal or acceptable visual loss depending on the level.

Can I compress a PDF to an exact size, like 1 MB?

There's no guaranteed exact target, but Maximum compression produces the smallest possible file. If it's still too big, try splitting the document.

Does text stay selectable?

In Best quality, yes. In modes that convert pages to images, text is no longer selectable in exchange for a much smaller file — we tell you which happened in the result.

Is it safe for confidential documents?

Yes. Compression runs entirely in your browser and the document is never sent to any server.
