An open segmentation model (U²-Net, Apache license) executed with WebAssembly IN YOUR BROWSER: the image is never sent to a server. On first use the engine and model (about 19 MB) download from this same site.
How does it handle hair and fine edges?
With clear subjects the result is very good; loose hair and very busy backgrounds are the limit of any compact model. We are honest: for hard cases, check the before/after comparison.
Is it like phone portrait mode?
Same concept: separate subject and background and blur only the background. Here you control the strength and it works on any existing photo.
Good for hiding background info?
With high strength yes, though for specific data Blur area or Pixelate area are more precise.
