Reduce an audio file to a target size
Pick 1, 2, 5, 10 or 25 MB (or your own value): we compute the real bitrate needed and show you the size actually achieved, no tricks.
Your files never leave your device
How to reduce an audio file to X MB
- 1
Upload the audio
We read its real duration to compute the bitrate.
- 2
Pick the target
1, 2, 5, 10, 25 MB or a custom value.
- 3
Download the MP3
You see the real size achieved; if it will not fit, we say so.
Why use this tool
Real math
The bitrate comes from the exact file duration, not from a made-up table.
Honesty
If the target is impossible without destroying the audio, you see the real size achieved.
Private
Your audio never leaves your device: ffmpeg runs inside your browser.
Real engine
ffmpeg, the industry standard, compiled to WebAssembly and self-hosted.
Frequently asked questions
Can it end up above the target?
If the result exceeds the target we automatically retry with a more aggressive bitrate and show the real final size (e.g. "target 2 MB; result 2.1 MB").
What is the reasonable minimum?
We never go below 32 kbps: below that, speech stops being intelligible. If your target requires less, the result will stay slightly above.
Good for email or WhatsApp attachments?
Yes: typical limits (16-25 MB) are right there in the buttons. Pick the target and go.
