Really: MP4 and MOV are sibling containers (ISO Base Media). The same H.264/AAC streams move from one to the other untouched.
What's the point then?
Tools that insist on .mov (some QuickTime, Final Cut or template workflows) even though the content is identical.
Why is it so fast?
Only the container index is rewritten; the media data isn't processed.
