How accurate is it?
High with sharp printed text and good contrast; low with handwriting or blurry photos. The engine is tesseract, the reference open-source OCR.
Slower the first time?
Yes: the engine (~15 MB) downloads from this same site and stays cached.
PNG or HEIC too?
Yes: we have PNG to text, HEIC to text and the general Image to text tool.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is processed on your device; for metadata and privacy this matters most, which is why it is guaranteed by design.
